For this series of inline Vans Speed colourways, I explored the late-’90s and Y2K character of the archival silhouette through a more experimental approach to colour and materials.
Drawing from the technical footwear language of the era, I combined mesh, translucent TPU and layered materials with gradient colour treatments inspired by the shifting tones of a sunset. The aim was to exaggerate the Speed’s chunky proportions and layered panel construction while creating something that felt nostalgic without simply reproducing an original colourway.
The project resulted in multiple inline colourways, using material transparency, texture and colour transitions to give the revived silhouette a fresh identity while retaining the attitude of its 1998 origins.
