Collaboration with Slam City Skates
Created to celebrate 40 years of Slam City Skates, the collaboration explored the idea of “living history”connecting the DIY, utilitarian spirit of 1990s London skateboarding with the shop’s journey through the city.
Working closely with Slam City, I helped develop the concept and translate that history into the footwear. Geographical coordinates referencing Slam City’s past and present locations became markers of the shop’s movement through London, while raw-edged and customisable details reflected the DIY mentality of the skate scene surrounding it.
Rather than treating heritage as something fixed or nostalgic, we wanted the shoes to feel like objects that could continue to change through use. The wearer becomes part of the story, skating, altering and wearing the product rather than simply preserving a piece of history.
My role covered the footwear from concept through colour, materials and detailing, working directly with Slam City to turn the cultural references and archive into a product that felt authentic to both brands.
