For Pop Trading Company’s collaboration with Miffy, Vans was brought in to create the footwear component of the wider collection. Working directly with the Pop team, my role was to translate their playful Miffy concept across three Vans silhouettes, the Skate Grosso Mid, Sk8-Hi and Style 36, as well as the accompanying packaging.

The collection used bold, almost toy-like colour combinations with Miffy characters appearing as a recurring graphic across the footwear. During development, we experimented with several ways of bringing the character onto the shoes, including flock, chenille and patches, before settling on classic embroidery for its simplicity and connection to the wider collection.

The result was a colourful three-shoe capsule that brought Miffy’s instantly recognisable graphic language into Vans’ skate heritage while remaining true to Pop Trading Company’s distinct Amsterdam identity.
