The Motherlan × Vans collaboration celebrated the creative energy of the Lagos-based collective through a footwear collection inspired by community, culture and self-expression. Working closely with the Motherlan team, I translated their concepts into a collection that balanced their distinctive identity with Vans’ heritage.
The collection centred around a mismatched camouflage Half Cab, for which I developed a series of custom camouflage prints alongside stained-glass-inspired artwork that appeared on both the insole and a translucent outsole. I also designed two Old Skool colourways: one inspired by the visual language of graffiti, and another featuring photography by Motherlan creative and photographer Finn Flint, extending the collaboration beyond footwear into the wider creative community surrounding the brand.
One of the most interesting aspects of the project was exploring the cultural significance behind the concepts proposed by the Motherlan team. Every graphic and material choice was developed collaboratively to ensure the collection remained authentic to their vision while working within the framework of a Vans product.
